REWIND Therapy for the treatment of PTSD and traumatic memory

Treatment for PTSD and Trauma - The Rewind Technique Leeds

Treatment for PTSD and traumatic memory using REWIND

REWIND therapy is a safe, fast and effective treatment for PTSD and other symptoms caused by psychological trauma. Many of us will face trauma at some time in our lives.  Witnessing or experiencing an event that causes fear, helplessness or horror can produce an intense, emotional response leading to the development of PTSD.

Symptoms may include a combination of emotional and behavioural difficulties, intrusive memories, avoidance and numbing.  Psychological trauma is any sudden, shocking unexpected event that overwhelms our ability to respond adequately.  These events include, but are not limited to:

  • Road traffic accidents, plane or train crashes
  • Terrorism and bombings
  • Accidents at work
  • Sexual or violent assaults
  • Physical or verbal abuse, including bullying
  • Rape or sexual abuse
  • Serious illness, a sudden threat to life i.e.heart attack, loss of a body part
  • Miscarriage, stillbirth or difficult birth

PTSD is treatable

REWIND trauma-focused therapy can be effective in significantly reducing symptoms after just one session.

PTSD is treatable even when problems persist many years after the traumatic event.  It is never too late to seek help. REWIND therapy can be effective in significantly reducing symptoms after just one session.  During the Rewind Technique, you access the trauma whilst in a safe, relaxed state.

I will guide you through a sequence of observing the trauma in forward 'film' and then in rewind. We will do this as many times as necessary in a single session. I will talk you through the process and ensure you always stay relaxed.  This allows the brain to reprocess and store the traumatic memory as an ordinary, albeit unpleasant, and non-threatening memory rather than one that continually activates a terror response.

People often say that after REWIND they are surprised that they don’t feel ‘bothered’ by the trauma anymore. The event is not forgotten, but when recalled it doesn’t pack the same punch, so it won’t be accompanied by those old feelings of anxiety, fear or panic.

The cost of REWIND therapy is £130 including a follow up session. Payment is required 48 hours prior to the scheduled appointment. The cancellation policy for REWIND therapy is 48 hours, this is due to the limited availability of appointments. If further counselling is required to address other issues or concerns, then these will be charged at the regular counselling rate of £65 per 50 minute session.

How many therapy sessions do I need?

If we are treating a single traumatic incident, I would expect a good result after one session of REWIND therapy. However, the trauma you have been through will be different from what someone else has endured. All our minds are beautifully diverse, which means I can't promise you a level of result after one treatment.

For multiple or complex trauma, we will deal with the most difficult ordeal in the first session, and then if necessary move onto the others in subsequent sessions. You will find that once the worst memories are dealt with, the power goes out of related memories too.

Research results for the Rewind Technique as a treatment for PTSD

Although research into the Rewind Technique is still in its infancy, one study carried out by the Human Givens Institute in the UK showed the following results on a study size of 30 people.
  • 40% of clients rated Rewind as extremely successful.
  • 53% rated it as successful.
  • 7% rated it as acceptable.

No one rated the Rewind Technique poor or as a failure.

  • Before therapy, on average clients rated their wellbeing as 12 out of 50.
  • Seven to 10 days after treatment, the average score was 30.3 out of 50.
  • Three to six months later, the average score was 32.2.

This represents an improvement of 167.4 per cent on their original ratings.

A four-year study carried out within NOVA (part of the Barnardo's charity) showed similarly impressive results:

Study size: 47 people, 57% of whom were treated with Rewind alone.

  • 26 would have met the criteria for PTSD.
  • After treatment, none of the forty-seven people treated met the criteria for PTSD.
  • There was also a significant reduction of all sub symptoms associated with PTSD; five categories had zero reports after treatment.
